Style Edit: Black Maxi Dress

For a while, I felt like something is missing in my wardrobe. That thing was a black maxi dress that is just easy to wear for a walk or a shopping trip but also perfect for a bit more formal occasion. Generally in my fashion adventure, I’m at the point where I do notice how many unnecessary and unconsidered fashion choices I’ve made throughout the years, which includes pieces of worse quality just because they were on-trend. Now, I’m trying to make more mature choices and buy minimal clothes of better quality to create a capsule wardrobe full of outfits perfect for any occasion that will last longer. While making my new choices I’m also looking at the type of fabric from which the garment is made as well as how it’s sourced and produced. Transparency is something that we should definitely have a closer look while picking and supporting our favourite brands.

The dress that I’ve decided to buy is H&M and is 100% viscose. I know that viscose is quite controversial at the moment. For those who aren’t in the know, it’s a fabric sourced from cellulose which unfortunately often is an excuse for production companies to illegally cut trees all around the world. However, things are different with H&M as they have already made some big steps towards a more sustainable and balanced future. They also are quite a transparent brand, which is reflected on every product page. There you will find a tab named „Product Background” where you can find detailed information about the composition, origin and the place of production, as well as a brief note from the brand about what steps they are making to create better, more sustainable practice.

My dress has been made from viscose that comes from fully controlled plantation so no risk of illegal deforestation. Getting familiar with this information has taken me around 2 minutes but I feel like it’s making my purchase much more mature and thoughtful. That’s why I wanted to encourage you to find out more about your favourite brands and their production methods, so you also could shop more sustainably and have pieces that will last years.

My dress is available on the website and is only £17.99. I would advise you to size down as it comes up quite big. Below I have also linked for you a selection of similar style dresses from H&M range.
That's all for today! Please comment below and let me know what you think about more thoughtful way of shopping and what you would like to see here in the future!
